The name Alberese comes from the former Saint Benedict Abbey of S.Maria Alborenze; since from prehistory some caves, such as that of the Scoglietto were inhabited , and we can still see some signs of a more recent past (Bronze Age, Roman Age); some Estruschi remains (Poggio Raso) and roman remains (Santa Francesca, Le Frasche) are mostly present along the old Aurelia road. The town of Alberese reached its present shape only in the mid twentieth century with the beginning of the Agricultural Drainage that came after the previous sanitary and hydraulic drainage carried out by the Lorena family. Today Alberese is a small town dominated by the Villa Fattoria Granducale, in the heart of the Maremma Natural Park, ideal starting point for walking trips and excursions among beautiful landscapes made of butteri, horses, cattle, pine forest the seas and its fascinating beaches. Thanks to the Natural Park local administration it was possible to preserve this wonderful natural environment.
